SIDMA College UNITAR Sabah Digital Media Day

Madam Azlina Ngatimin; (Director, Corporate Marketing and Business Development) and SIDMA staff will host SIDMA College Digital Media Day, or more popularly known as #SIDMAgoesLIVE for its staff, students and the general public. The grand event will be held at SIDMA College Atrium and will be broadcasted live on SIDMA’s Facebook Page on 6 October 2018, from 9.00 am - 6.00 pm. It will feature various trending online activities using various digital technologies. YB Darell Leikiing  (Minister of International Trade and Industry) is expected to officiate the event.

SIDMA College Sabah is extending its invitation to people from all walks of life in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang to come and participate in the event; as it is intended; to bring and to work together among staff, students, parents and general public as well as young electronic talents, newcomers and experts. The main idea of this programme is to create dialogue between communities and colleagues of the college and its environment for betterment of our future generations on digital technologies usage.

During the event, inspiring activities using digital technologies will be held at SIDMA Atrium.  Among some of the interesting activities are:

  • Mobile Legends Game
  • TEKKEN Game
  • FIFA 2018 Game
  • Virtual Reality demo
  • Gunpla demo,tutorial and exhibition
  • Cosplay gathering
  • Colouring Contest for kids
  • Food Truck and various product and services from local vendor.

The aim is to provide hands-on experiences and best practices on usage of digital technologies. As the programme is focusing on numerous activities, the organiser has appointed various facilitators and set up various booth to connect and work together on specific idea; thus allowing transferring of experiences and best practices for digital usage within the college communities.

Digital progress and transformation has touched on all areas of human existence; and education being among its forerunners. One of the most common example of using digital technologies in education nowadays is that all schools are equipped with computers. The use of digital technology in education has introduced quite significant changes to the learning process, thus calling for new teaching methodologies, new media, new content, new hardware and technologies to be used in the process of teaching and learning.

SIDMA College Sabah, since its humble beginning in Kota Kinabalu Sabah back in 2002, prides itself in being the first private institution of higher learning in Sabah; offering numerous academic programmes ranging from Foundation Studies, Diploma Courses, Bachelor Degree and Master’s Degree in various field ranging from education to business; through its close network with UNITAR International University (UNITAR), owned by UNITAR Capital Sdn Bhd which was founded in 1997.

Various initiatives such the provision of tablet to new students depending on their courses, UNIEC and SLMS (SIDMA Learning Management System), setting up WIFI around the campus, and other related facilities have enable students from any location globally with a device and connectivity to have access in learning.

SIDMA College, driven by its motto “Champion of Change” has continuously upgrading itself, carefully exercising comprehensive quality control to ensure that the delivery of quality educational outcome is accomplished.

In responding to the recent rapid technological advances which have given rise to trends such as automation and globalisation, thus demanding workplace changes within industries; a “Brain Storming Session” was held at Shangri-La Resort and Spa, Tanjung Aru Resort, Kota Kinabalu on 8th February 2017. This creates the big leap for SIDMA College to put in place strategies geared towards producing graduates equipped with a broad set of 21st Century skills, universal values and talents upon graduation. Blended learning and technology immerse teaching ala flipped classroom model has been adopted to equip students with ICT knowledge, collaborative skills, critical and creative thinking skills, communicative skills, human values to ensure that its graduates can function effectively both in current and in future time.

Through the use of digital technology, students’ and teachers’ files are stored and maintained electronically, as well as their profiles, grades, ratings and assessments. This will enable easier access for the student to adapt the 21st century learning. Such “changes” or reformation that are taking place at SIDMA College Sabah points toward the strategies undertaken by the college into all segments of its work- from online lecture notes, exercises, quizzes, assignments, project and group work, on SIDMA Website; lecture notes and extra reading materials packed with videos and live demos from online sources.
