Hari Raya literally means celebration day; and Hari Raya Aidilfitri is the day that marks the end of Ramadan, the Islamic holy month of the dawn-to-dusk fasting. Hari Raya Aidilfitri is considered one of the most important celebrations for the Muslims. Also known as “Eid Al Fitr”, it’s a time for family togetherness and celebration, with everyone enjoying themselves after the austerity of Ramadan; and the start of a new month on the Islamic calendar, Syawal. Hence, in conjunction with this auspicious festive occasion, SIDMA College’s Human Resource department with the collaboration of staff from the Yellow Team, led by Mr Bonaventure Wences, organised the SIDMA College Staff Gathering cum Hari Raya Aidilfitri 2018 Celebration on 29 June 2018 at SIDMA College Atrium.

Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (SIDMA College Founder and Chairman), Madam Azlina Ngatimin (Director, Corporate Relations and Business Development), Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO), Managers, Heads of Departments, lecturers, staff and students were invited to the event. One of the many charitable acts by Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Chairman and Founder of SIDMA College) during each Ramadan, is to honour the spirit of Ramadan and spreading the Hari Raya cheers, through the distribution of Hari Raya Goodies to SIDMA staff, including staff from its subsidiary companies such as Bentleytel Malaysia Sdn Bhd., Didi Childcare Centre and Fiona Travels and Tours Sdn Bhd, celebrating Hari Raya.

To share the warmth and joy of 1st Syawal 1439H, Dr Morni with the full cooperation and collaboration of SIDMA College Staff Welfare Association (Pertubuhan Kebajikan Kakitangan Kolej SIDMA Sabah - PKKKSS) 2018/2019 Committee headed by Mr Zain Azrai, presented Hari Raya Goodies to SIDMA staff celebrating the Hari Raya Aidilfitri on 15 June 2018 (upon the first sighting of the 1st Syawal moon)

More than 100 goodie bags containing basic Hari Raya celebration necessities such a variety of poultry, beef, assorted fruit and soda drinks, and more were distributed to the staff by Dr Morni at SIDMA Atrium on 8 June 2018. SIDMA College under the dynamic leadership of Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Chairman and Founder) and Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO) enlivens the spirit of Ramadan with the distribution of packed spiced porridge or more popularly known as Ramadan Porridge (bubur lambuk) as one of the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan yearly activities of the college.

Madam Noradilah Binti Mohamaddia, Secretariat of 2018 SIDMA Ihya Ramadan Committee, announced that more than 60 SIDMA staff take their turn, during the twice a week scheduled gotong royong exercise to prepare about 400 – 500 packs of the porridge for distribution to various strategic locations in and around Kota Kinabalu and Penampang such as mosques, schools, police stations, fire and rescue stations, hospitals and more during the holy month of Ramadan.

According to Dr Morni, the distribution of Ramadan porridge started with a humble beginning at SIDMA College Sarawak in 1999. When SIDMA College Sabah was established in Kota Kinabalu in 2003, he continued the exact same tradition.

Dr Morni added that through this annual activity it will provide adequate opportunities for SIDMA staff to engage themselves in charity work, promote the spirit of giving and helping the needy during this holy month, thus indirectly bring them closer to Allah the Almighty, as  well as to remind them on the suffering of the less fortunate.

Harvest (Kaamatan) festival which is celebrated by the indigenous community of Sabah on 30th and 31st  May every year; is a festivals which is closely associated with the end of the planting cycle – a time for harvest. For generations they have celebrated these unique festival as “magavau” or thanksgiving for a bountiful paddy harvest, and a hope of continuous good harvest in years to come.

This year’s Kaamatan festival theme of celebration is “Koubasanan Impowon Pisompuruan om Piobpinain” a Kadazandusun phrase which literally means “culture as the foundation of unity and kinship”; and is indeed relevant to SIDMA College Sabah as the staff are from a very diverse background and practicing a progressive corporate culture.

In line with this auspicious celebration, Dr Morni Hj Kambrie (Chairman and Founder of SIDMA College Sabah), through SIDMA Staff Welfare Association (PKKKSS) distributed Kaamatan goodies to SIDMA College Sabah staff celebrating the festival.

Goodies in the form of 10kg of rice, fresh whole chicken, fresh chicken wings and soft drinks were distributed to SIDMA staff at SIDMA Atrium on 26 May 2018 by Madam Azizah Khalid Merican (CEO). Also present during the event were Mr Zain Azrai Bin Mohd Noor (Chairman of PKKKSS), PKKSSS Central Committee, and SIDMA staff.
